Growing up is a beast as Disney and Pixar Animation Studios releases the official teaser trailer for their upcoming animated film Turning Red. View trailer below.
Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager.
Hmmm…..I don’t know about this movie. From the trailer alone, I seems a bit subpar for a feature film for a studio like Pixar, especially given the past catalogue of work. This scenario seems something like Sony Animation would do or Illumination Entertainment. So, I’m quite skeptical about this movie and the teaser trailer, while fun and amusing, didn’t do much for me. On the other hand, after the release of Luca, Pixar has shown that they can do cartoon narratives that are more simplistic and lighthearted, so that is probably where Turning Red is going for. I’ll have to see how this movie turns out, which I’m quite curious about, but my expectations are a bit low.
