Back in April of 2021, Littlefield Studio and Dear Villagers, a subsidiary of Plug in Digital, launched Machinika Museum on a number of platforms including mobile. The title had you playing as a researcher in a very special wing of a museum that dealt exclusively with extraterrestrial and otherworldly artifacts. Your job was to inspect the artifacts and figure out how they worked, very similarly to solving the types of puzzle boxes you’d come across in The Room series and other escape-style adventure games. Well now the developers are readying a direct sequel, called Machinika: Atlas, and this time around you’re still playing as that museum researcher except now you’ve crashed landed onto Saturn’s moon Atlas and you find yourself exploring a strange alien vessel. It is, of course, filled with all sorts of crazy puzzle machines to solve. Here’s a trailer.
We really enjoyed the original Machinika Museum when it came out, choosing it as our Game of the Week back then, and it even received additional content post-release that kept the good times rolling, so I’m pretty psyched to see what the sequel will do. While Machinika: Atlas does tie into the original game story-wise, it’s not required that you’ve played the first game in order to fully enjoy this sequel, but I think those that have will get a kick out of seeing how the narrative evolves. Machinika: Atlas is available for pre-order on iOS on the App Store here, and available for pre-registration for Android on the Google Play Store here. You can also Wishlist the PC version over on Steam or on the Epic Games Store. The pre-order pages for mobile show October 7th as the expected release date, with the PC versions set to arrive on September 3rd.
